Hit 40 desk builds and just counted my tape measure usage

I've been building budget desks for friends and neighbors in Toledo for about 18 months. Last weekend I hit 40 total builds and realized I've gone through 7 tape measures, not because they broke, but because I kept leaving them at people's houses. That number shocked me since I never budgeted for that, and it's a real cost nobody mentions. Has anyone else tracked how many tools they lose or leave behind on a project, or is it just me?

Man, that hits close to home. I do small repairs for folks in my neighborhood and I swear I have a second drill battery living in someone's garage right now, because I left it there last month and just haven't gone back for it. It's crazy how the little stuff adds up, the cost sneaks up on you when you're just trying to get the job done. You're definitely not alone in that, I bet half my toolbox is scattered across three blocks.
