Hit 50 successful phone screen repairs and realized I was wrong about cheap glass
I used to swear by the expensive OEM screens for iPhone repairs, thinking anything cheaper would break in a week. But after fixing number 50 with a $15 generic glass I got from a supplier in Chinatown last month, I haven't had a single callback. That milestone made me check my numbers and now I only use those budget ones. Has anyone else switched to cheaper parts and found they hold up just as good?

Never thought about how the environment where you test the screens might be skewing results. Maybe those cheap ones actually hold up better in dry, climate controlled shops than OEM glass does. I had a buddy who did all his testing in his garage with a dehumidifier running and swore by the generic stuff. When he moved to a humid basement setup, his callback rate on those same cheap screens doubled in two months. Could be the moisture or temperature throwing off the adhesive, not the glass quality itself.

So your buddy’s entire repair business was basically one big science experiment nobody signed up for? That’s wild but also kind of hilarious. I guess when you’re testing screens, you’re also testing your own shop’s HVAC system by accident. Maybe the cheap glass is actually fine, it just needs a lawsuit-level disclaimer about humidity levels. Who knew a dehumidifier could be the real MVP of screen repairs? What’s his callback rate now that he’s back in a dry space?
