My old laptop screen went black but the computer was still running

I was working on a project at my kitchen table when the display just cut out. I could hear the fan and the hard drive spinning, so I knew it wasn't dead. I unplugged the power, took out the battery, and held the power button for 30 seconds. When I plugged it back in, the screen came on like normal. Has anyone else had this happen with a Dell Inspiron?

Had the same thing, reseating the ram fixed it for me.

Reseating RAM is a temporary fix at best. In my case, the problem came back within a week because the motherboard slot itself was faulty. You might just be masking a deeper hardware issue that needs proper diagnosis.

My old Dell had a similar memory slot gremlin. I ended up just using the other two slots permanently and ignoring the bad ones. It ran fine like that for years until I finally upgraded.
