Bought premium bench top for $120, ended up using leftover plywood instead
Back in March I was fixing up my garage bench and got suckered by a fancy laminated maple top at the hardware store in Tulsa. Paid $120 for it, brought it home, and realized my old frame was too narrow by like 2 inches. Tried to cut it down but my circular saw left jagged edges everywhere. Eventually just screwed two layers of 3/4 inch plywood I had lying around and it's been solid for 4 months. That maple board is still leaning against my shed wall gathering dust. Anyone else got a pricey upgrade sitting unused because the cheap fix just worked better?

Ha! My $200 drill press has been a glorified paperweight since I built a jig with scrap wood.
