Shoutout to my near-miss with a non-contact voltage tester
These testers can give false reads, so always use a meter instead.

I actually keep a non-contact tester in my tool bag for quick checks. It's saved me a bunch of time when I'm just trying to see if a circuit is hot before I dig in deeper. For the final confirmation though, yeah, I always break out the meter.

On a job site last year, the foreman always stressed using both tools. That non-contact tester is great for a fast scan, like when you're checking a dozen outlets quickly. But I've seen them give false reads if there's interference or buried wires. So pulling out the meter is key for real proof before you touch anything. It just adds that extra step for safety, you know? Better to spend a minute than risk it...

Remember when my tester lied? Almost got fried.
