TIL about a 'grounding grid' from a guy at the supply house
I was picking up some 3/0 copper for a service upgrade and heard an old-timer telling the counter guy about a job where they had to install a full grounding grid under a new metal building. He said they used over 500 feet of bare copper in a grid pattern and tied it to all the columns. I've only ever done standard ground rods... is that kind of grid common for big industrial sites, or is it a special case thing?

My buddy saw one on a data center job, so maybe for sensitive equipment?

That's a crazy amount of power just for one room. Data centers already have backup generators for the whole building. A personal grid connection seems like massive overkill.
