Pro tip: I was cleaning my shower head with vinegar for years until a plumber in Denver told me that's why my seals kept failing.

He pointed out the acid was degrading the rubber gaskets inside, which explained the constant drips I had every six months. Now I just use a plastic bag filled with hot water and baking soda for twenty minutes. What's a better way to descale without wrecking the parts?

Ever try just plain old lemon juice?

Lemon juice is still acidic and can cause the same problem. A citric acid powder mixed with warm water works better for me, it's gentler on the seals. Just soak it for an hour and the scale wipes right off.
