My aunt finally told me my pie crust was tough and she was right
At Thanksgiving last year my aunt Linda pulled me aside and said my apple pie tasted great but the crust was like shoe leather. She showed me how she uses ice water and handles the dough as little as possible, no more than 10 seconds of mixing. I stopped overworking the dough and started using frozen butter grated on a box grater and now my crust actually flakes. Has anyone else had a relative be brutally honest about their cooking?

Nod along because this applies to way more than just pie crust, like how most people screw up simple things just by trying too hard. I've noticed that in everything from making coffee to fixing a leaky faucet, the less you fuss the better it turns out. Your aunt gave you the real secret nobody wants to hear, which is that half the time you just gotta get out of your own way.

Preach @evan_jenkins, I learned that the hard way trying to fix a squeaky door with way too much planning. Just grabbed some oil, gave it one quick squirt, and it stopped immediately after I spent an hour watching tutorials. Your aunt's advice works because most problems solve themselves if you just take one small step instead of overthinking the whole thing.
