Serious question, what happened to all the free fix-it clinics in our town?

Back when I moved here, the community center had monthly sessions where old-timers showed you how to patch drywall or unclog drains. Now those are gone, and I see more neighbors calling for simple jobs. Isn't it cheaper to just learn it yourself?

Wait, people are actually calling pros for a clogged drain now?

My buddy tried fixing his own last month and flooded the bathroom, so maybe @ericb66 is onto something there.

My old apartment sink clogged every other week. I finally bought a $15 plastic drain snake from the hardware store, and it cleared hair clogs in about ten minutes. Kevinr23, your buddy's story is exactly why I didn't try anything more complicated. Sometimes the simple tool is all you need before it becomes a real mess.
