Shoutout to my $4.50 drain snake from Ace Hardware

I used to dump a whole bottle of Drano down the kitchen sink every few months (you know, the $8 giant jug) and just hope it worked. Last week I finally pulled the trigger on one of those cheap little plastic drain snakes with the barbed hooks instead. I snagged out a clump of gunk in about 3 minutes and the water ran clear. Has anyone else found a super cheap tool that made them realize they were wasting money on chemicals?

But doesn't the snake just push the gunk further down the pipe sometimes? I tried one of those cheap plastic ones and it barely grabbed anything, plus the hooks snapped off after two uses. Drano might cost more but it actually dissolves the grease and hair instead of just moving it around. For tough clogs that plastic snake just bends and slips through, leaving you with a wet mess and a still slow drain. I'd rather spend $8 on stuff that works chemically than wrestle with a flimsy piece of plastic that breaks halfway through the job.

Nah I gotta disagree big time. A good metal snake actually pulls stuff out instead of just pushing it around, and Drano can wreck your pipes if you use it too much. Plus you gotta wait forever for it to work and the fumes are nasty.
