Had to pick between a vintage toolbox and a set of old wrenches at the Springfield flea market

Last Saturday, I saw a big, heavy metal toolbox from the 60s for $40 and a full set of vintage, unmarked wrenches for $25. I only had $50 on me. I went with the toolbox because it was solid and I needed the storage, but part of me wonders if the wrenches were the smarter buy for actual use. The guy next to me grabbed the wrenches right after I walked away. Did I make the right call, or should you always go for the tools over the box they come in?

That 60s box for $40 was a solid grab man. I used to be all about getting the actual tools first and thinking the box was just extra weight. But a couple years back I grabbed a beat up old metal box at an estate sale and honestly it changed my mind completely. Those old boxes are built like tanks and they just keep going no matter what you throw at them. You can always find wrenches at pawn shops or flea markets for cheap but finding a heavy duty metal box in good shape for that price is pretty rare these days. Plus if the wrenches were unmarked they were probably just run of the mill and not anything special. You made the right call.

Honestly, you probably made the right call. A solid old toolbox is way harder to find than old wrenches. You can always pick up single wrenches here and there, but a good box that lasts forever? That's a score. My dad's old metal box is still going strong after fifty years, while I've replaced most of the tools inside. Did the wrenches have any brand marks or were they just generic?

Only the guy who got the wrenches knows for sure.
