Serious question, is the push to always bargain making flea markets less fun?
I hit up a flea market yesterday and spotted a neat old coffee grinder for $15. Everyone says you have to haggle to get a good deal, so I tried asking for $10. The seller just shook their head and looked upset, like I was insulting them. That moment felt really bad and took the joy out of finding something cool. I think this idea that you MUST negotiate on everything is wrong. Some prices are fair from the start, and pushing too hard can make sellers not want to chat or share stories about their stuff. Maybe we should only bargain when something seems way too high, not as a default. It would keep the mood light and let us focus on the hunt instead of arguing over a few bucks.

You know what made flea markets fun for me again? I started chatting with sellers about the item first instead of leading with a price offer. That good vibe often got me a better deal without the hard negotiation.

Bargaining is part of the flea market experience and makes it fun for a lot of us. Seeing a price as just a starting point is how the game has always been played. A seller getting upset at an offer might mean their price was firm, but that doesn't make the offer rude. Walking away from a deal that doesn't work is also part of it. If we stop negotiating, we might as well just shop at a regular store. The back and forth is what makes finding a good deal feel like a real win.

Watch how the constant lowballing makes sellers put up a wall. They start pricing things higher just to leave room for the haggling they know is coming. That just starts the whole dumb cycle over and makes it worse for everyone.
