My wife insisted I could make a decent meal from just half an onion, a jar of olives, and some leftover rice, and I'm still surprised she was right.
I was ready to order takeout, but she challenged me to try a fried rice with those three things plus some soy sauce and an egg I found, and it turned into a solid dinner that saved us $35 last Friday night.

Oh, the "stubborn and not wanting to spend the money" is the real secret ingredient. My fridge has looked like a sad yard sale before, and my pride just will not let me admit defeat to a wilting carrot and some old tortillas. The victory dance after making a weirdly good quesadilla is honestly better than any takeout.

That "solid dinner that saved us $35" is the best feeling. My partner does the same thing, pointing at three random things in the fridge. I've learned a splash of vinegar or lemon juice can make almost anything taste like a real meal. It's not about fancy recipes, just being stubborn and not wanting to spend the money.
