Appreciation post: I picked a granite countertop over quartz for my kitchen remodel last year, and I'm so glad I did.

The quartz looked perfect in the showroom, but I found a local stone yard with this amazing piece of Utah granite full of big feldspar crystals. It was a bit more work to seal it, but every time I see the sun hit those crystals in the morning, it feels totally worth it. Anyone else choose a natural stone for the character over something more uniform?

Honestly, I was the same as @rileyl98 and thought quartz was the only smart choice. Seeing a friend's leathered granite counter with all its tiny pits and shadows totally changed my mind. That basic hardware store sealer works fine, you just have to remember to put it on every year. The little flaws give it way more soul than a perfect sheet of quartz ever could.

Forget the sealer for a second. How do you actually feel about the upkeep? You're sold on the look, but are you really cool with that yearly chore forever, or does it become a pain you just accept?

My last kitchen had laminate that bubbled up next to the sink. I was so proud of my upgrade to quartz, thinking I was fancy, until I see posts like this. Now I'm just staring at my boring, perfect slab wondering where I went wrong. Did you have to get a special sealer for that Utah granite, or is the basic stuff from the hardware store okay?
