A retired glassblower in Tucson told me my punties were too thick, and after thinning them down, my transfers got a lot cleaner.

He said, 'You're fighting the heat, kid,' and now I use a 6mm graphite rod for almost everything instead of the 10mm I started with, which has anyone else found a sweet spot for punty size?

That "fighting the heat" comment explains why my small stuff always cracked.

My tiny pendants stopped cracking after I switched punties too.

Remember my friend who kept losing pieces off the mandrel? She was using a huge punty, like 12mm. After reading what @amy_carr5 said about small stuff cracking, she switched to a 5mm for her perfume bottles. The difference was night and day, way less heat shock and cleaner breaks.
