Vent: I used to think my cheap propane torch was fine until I borrowed a friend's oxy-propane setup
For the first two years I was just making small pendants and marbles, and my basic hardware store torch seemed okay. Then I tried to make a set of matching tumblers last week and the heat control was a nightmare. My friend let me use his Nortel Red Rocket with separate oxygen, and the difference in how clean and even I could work the glass was huge. It was like going from a dull knife to a sharp one. For anyone else who started with just propane, when did you know it was time to upgrade your torch?

My old Hot Head torch made perfect beads for five years.

That's a solid run, @ericnguyen. Tough to beat that kind of reliability.

Yeah, five years is amazing. Chris is right about the reliability, but those old torches were for soft glass, not boro beads.
