Rant: I mean, I had this client where the toner kept washing out in like two washes, idk, but using a different acidic shampoo actually made it stick.

Has anyone else's purple shampoo made their highlights turn a weird blue, lol?

What acidic shampoo did you switch to? Had a similar thing happen with a silver toner. Started using a cheap acid balance shampoo. Color held up way better after that. The low pH just makes the hair grab the color.

How often do you wash your hair with the acidic shampoo now? @henderson.val is onto something with the low pH idea, because it really locks the color in by smoothing down the hair cuticle. But have you considered that your water quality might be working against the shampoo's effect? Hard water with a high pH can actually roughen the cuticle back up and fade toner super fast. Adding a quick vinegar rinse after shampooing could boost that acid balance even more for next to no cost. It's wild how such a small change can make your color stay vibrant for weeks longer. Why isn't this basic chemistry talked about more in hair care tips?
