Just realized my "compostable" takeout containers never actually break down

I've been tossing those PLA plastic forks and clamshells into my backyard compost bin for 6 months from my favorite Thai place on Elm Street. When I dug through it last week to turn the pile, they looked exactly the same as the day I put them in. Has anyone else tested these in a home compost setup or found a way to actually get them to degrade?

Six months and not even a dent in those forks? That's wild, I figured they'd at least start getting brittle after a few months of rain and sun.

Honestly, are we really acting like plastic forks out in the rain is some kind of environmental crisis? Tbh, they're just gonna sit there for years either way, doesn't really matter if they're brittle or not.
