I used to think expensive seam rollers were a waste... until I borrowed my buddy's $80 one last week

Bro eighty bucks for a seam roller? That's insane. I didn't even know they made them that expensive. I've been rolling my seams with a paint roller for years and it works fine but now I'm curious if I'm missing out on something life changing. What makes it so much better anyway? Like does it actually make the fabric sit flatter or is it just the weight and feel of the tool?

Overheard my boss say I'm 'not ready' for a promotion - should I confront him or keep quiet?

Wait, are we supposed to hide around corners at work just to find out the truth about our careers now? That's some real spy movie stuff, and you didn't even get a cool gadget out of it. Honestly though, if your boss thinks you need another year of lead experience, maybe just casually volunteer to lead the next project that comes up. That way you get your skills in front of him without making it weird that you were eavesdropping. He might even start seeing you as more ready before the 12 months are up.

Saw the difference 20 years makes in a coal forge fire pot

That old pot has a lot of stories in it for sure. @uma_baker99 makes some good points about safety, but I gotta say my experience was the opposite. I cleaned up my grandpa's old forge about ten years ago and it's still going strong. The bottom was thin but not rusted through. I just added a fresh layer of fireclay and kept using it. Never had any problems with heat control either, once you get the feel for the bellows it's just as consistent as any gas setup I've tried. I still use it for most of my work because it just feels right. Different folks have different luck with old gear I guess.

Appreciation post: the week I pulled 3 perfect conduit bends back to back

Pulled a 3-point saddle under a house in Norfolk last spring that looked like it came out of a textbook. Had a little 4" level taped to my bender and just nailed every angle on the first try. No measuring twice, no cutting and re-bending, just pure flow state. Makes you feel like you could bend a 4" rigid with your bare hands. That kind of mojo is rare but man when it hits it's better than coffee.

Just realized I was overworking my roux for years

I mean, maybe it's just me but I wonder if those super dark rouxs became a thing because people were trying to hide bad stock or weak seasoning. Cover up the lack of depth with some charred flour.
