Rant: I was fighting with this old building's floor plan for three days straight

My last map project, same thing.

I still think that old school magnesium float beats a power trowel on a small patio

My last patio job was a tiny 8x10 walkway, and I almost gave in to the power trowel just to save my back. But you're right, the hand float just gives you that feel you can't get with a machine. I always end up overworking a corner with the power trowel and leaving a weird swirl mark. The extra time is worth it when you step back and see a perfect, flat finish without any of those machine lines.

Unpopular opinion: Bus lanes don't speed anything up

Have you ever been on a bus when it gets to use the bus lane? Bus lanes let buses skip past car traffic... so they do speed things up for people riding them. If buses had to sit in every car jam, trips would take way longer. Sure, sometimes buses still get stuck, but overall, the lanes make a big difference. Without them, bus schedules would be a mess during rush hour.

Setting up for a curved wall had me waiting on the right tools

Totally! Waiting that long for a drill bit is just nuts. My own project stalled once because of a missing part. The whole thing just sits there, half done. It makes you wonder if the tool is even worth the wait. Really kills the momentum on any DIY project.

Rant: I don't buy the hype about needing fancy thermal cameras for diagnostics

Remember that single example doesn't trash the whole method. IR guns map heat across the entire board in real time, something fingers can never do. Relying on touch means you might miss gradual rises or differences too slight to feel. You also risk burns or static damage when poking around live electronics. Proper tools exist for a reason, and skipping them over one lucky find is just careless.
