Picked up a Freud Diablo blade at Home Depot in Cleveland last week because I thought I was upgrading from the cheapo one that came with my saw. First cut through some treated lumber for a deck repair and it threw a chunk right out of the carbide tip. Called Freud and they said it's a wear item so no warranty. Anyone else had luck with a different brand that actually holds up on treated wood?
I used to think coworking was overpriced hype, but after losing my favorite coffee shop spot to construction noise, I tried one for $25 a day in Medellin. The fast wifi and power outlets everywhere beat fighting for a table. Anyone else find coworking worth it for the stability alone?
Last month I camped up at Big Bear and brought my old Kelty cosmic 20. My buddy had a $40 Ozark Trail bag from Walmart. First night hit 32 and I woke up warm while he was shivering by 3am. We checked the fill and his had way less insulation packed in. Anyone else notice a massive difference between budget bags and mid-range ones?
Last Wednesday I went in for just milk and eggs at the Kroger on Main St, walked out $80 lighter because I panicked at the rising prices and stocked up on canned goods. Did anyone else have that one random day where your list completely derailed your monthly plan?
I figured I'd tackle macarons last Sunday after watching like 10 YouTube videos. Got my almond flour sifted, egg whites aged for 3 days, the whole deal. Everything looked perfect going into the oven then they all cracked and spread into flat little pancakes. My roommate walked in and asked if I was making weird cookies or if something exploded. Turns out I didn't let them rest long enough before baking, only waited 15 minutes instead of 40. Anyone else have a macaron fail that made you question your whole baking setup?
After years of fighting with my old vacuum getting jammed on drywall dust and small debris, I picked up a new system last month from a buddy's recommendation out of a shop in Phoenix. He showed me how he rigged a separator bucket using a $20 Home Depot lid kit and a 5 gallon bucket, and hooked it to a Rigid 12 gallon vac. First time I tested it on a full day of sanding and cleanup, not a single clog. The bucket caught probably 90% of the dust before it even hit the vac filter. I was shocked how much time it saved me from having to stop and unclog every 15 minutes. Anyone else ever try a dust separator setup like that or do you just stick with the factory bags?
I started biking the towpath from Ohio City down to Brooklyn last spring just to get out of the house. Last week I added up my rides and realized I'd passed 100 miles without even trying. Has anyone else noticed how the trail conditions change depending on whether you go north or south of the Zoo?
I used to fight with a folding saw for years until a buddy let me try his on a big dead branch and I bought one that same week, has anyone else found a specific tool that totally changed how you work in the tree?
Was at the county library in Portland last Tuesday picking up holds and heard the reference librarian tell someone she always reads the last page of a book before chapter one. Said it helps her spot bad writing early and never spoils the story for her because she forgets details anyway. I tried it on three novels this week and it actually killed my anxiety about wasting time on a dud. Anyone else ever try something weird like that to screen books faster?
I was at a cookout last weekend and my buddy refused to give out his wifi password to anyone. He said it's a huge security risk because guests might accidentally have malware or something. But my other friend said it's way safer than having people use public networks at Starbucks. I get both sides honestly. Like how many of you actually change your default router settings? And do you think the convenience of sharing is worth the risk?
