Question about dealing with a client who can't sit still

That shoulder trick is solid. Saw something similar with a guy who kept tapping his feet. The barber just casually leaned his hip against the client's knee, not even really pressing, just making contact. The tapping stopped right away. Sometimes it's just about breaking that nervous rhythm with a little steady touch.

My kid asked why my code was so long and it made me stop

Yeah, that part about writing code for other coders really hit me. I used to add extra checks and comments just because that's how I was taught. After reading @gracea19's point about habit, I see my old ten-line functions were often just three lines of actual work. The kid's question cuts right through all that.

PSA: I used to buy my wife flowers for our anniversary, now I get her a gift card for a local nursery.

Yeah but it depends on the person. My aunt got a gift card to her favorite plant nursery last year and she was over the moon. She spent a whole Saturday picking out stuff for her garden, said it was the best part of her birthday. Sometimes the thought is giving them the choice, you know? Not everyone wants a set thing.

Had a really bad Tuesday trying to help a neighbor with a flooded basement

Totally agree with calling insurance first. That list of approved companies saved us too when our basement flooded. It cuts through all the panic searching when you're standing there with water everywhere. Those companies already know how to deal with the paperwork, which is half the battle. Makes a bad situation just a little less stressful. Did you have to fight with your insurance at all over what they would cover?

Visited the old steel mill museum in Pittsburgh and their core sand display was all wrong. They had the binder ratios backwards.

Tbh, that's so frustrating. You'd think a museum dedicated to that history would get the basics right. Makes you wonder who they had checking the facts. Stuff like that just kills the trust in the whole exhibit.
