inThat whole 'learn HTML first' advice feels backwards to me
Honestly that "master HTML first" advice always bugged me too, your dice roller example proves it.

Why mess with Bluetooth when a wire just works?

inThat chat with a retired butcher about whole lamb broke my brain
Saw a similar thing with a old fishmonger in my neighborhood. He just fillets everything the same way, doesn't bother with all those fancy presentation cuts. Honestly it made me realize I was spending way too much time trying to make everything look pretty for photos instead of just getting it portioned and sold. Ngl that hand trick for the shoulder sounds wild though. Gonna try that next time I break down a lamb and see if it actually works as good as he says.

inGot burned spending $200 on a 'smart' thermostat that fought me all winter
Old school programmable timers are great until you need to change your schedule for holidays or random days off. Then you're digging out the manual or pressing buttons 47 times trying to figure out which sequence does what. @morgan_butler I think the real sweet spot is something with a simple physical switch that lets you override the program on the fly. Like those old school Honeywell thermostats where you could push a button to hold the temp for a few hours. No app needed, no guessing, just a button that does exactly what you tell it to. Ever tried one of those touch screen ones where the delay makes you miss the setting you wanted?

inThe guy in that Chiang Mai cafe who told me to stop booking hostels and try couchsurfing instead. Saved me $600 in two months.
And honestly I think you're being too hard on hostels. Yeah some of them are dumpy but for solo travelers they're pretty much the only way you're gonna meet people without forcing yourself into random conversations at bars. I stayed in hostels all through Southeast Asia and met some of my best friends that way, people I still talk to years later. The social aspect alone is worth the premium over camping or whatever. Plus most of the good ones now have real kitchens and decent common areas, not just a bunch of bunk beds stacked in a room. Couchsurfing can be a total roll of the dice, I've had some weird experiences too but also some genuinely kind people who just wanted to show off their city. The MLM thing in Budapest sounds like a nightmare though, I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
