A building manager in Chicago said he'd rather have a simple relay logic system than a modern controller.

Well, the old relay systems had fewer parts to fail, but they also did a lot less. A modern controller handles a hundred more safety checks and comfort features. The real issue is whether we need all those features if they keep breaking.

Vent: Had to choose between a local CAD course or the online cert from that big tech school.

That local choice sounds like it paid off right away. How much did the hands-on part really matter for the type of CAD work you do day to day? Was it mostly about fixing prints, or did the in-person help change how you plan projects from the start?

Serious question, has anyone else noticed how much quieter the air got during that weirdly warm January week in Chicago?

That week felt like a different city.

My grandma's tamale recipe from Tucson has a weird step with corn husks.

Doubt it makes that much difference.

Finally fixed a 2019 MacBook Pro with that weird backlight issue

Honestly though, that sounds like a huge waste of time for most people. Most folks don't have donor boards just lying around or the tools to do that micro soldering. You could easily mess up the whole board and make it worse. Just swapping the display is way faster and more reliable, even if it costs a bit more. It's cool it worked for you, but telling people to hunt for tiny capacitors is bad advice for the average person trying to fix their laptop.
