inWent to the hardware store in Bakersfield and saw a whole aisle of broken stuff
Ugh, I gotta push back on this. Victor_ward, that's a best case scenario. Most of the time you crack something open and it's a fried circuit board or a motor that's shot, and the repair costs more than a new one. I tried fixing my coffee maker last month... spent an hour taking it apart just to find the heating element was totally gone. Not worth the hassle.

inTIL my old Fluke 87V meter was giving me a false ground reading in a 1960s house
My Fluke 87 read 32 volts on a disconnected switch leg last Tuesday. I grabbed my old solenoid tester and it just clicked once then showed zero. It's wild how those old BX cables can hold a charge like a tiny battery.

inCan we talk about using a hairdryer to speed up polyurethane drying? I thought it was a terrible idea until I tried it on a small test piece.
Totally get what you're saying, gracea19. It's all about that gentle push to make things set up faster without rushing the actual chemistry. My dad used to point a box fan at fresh drywall mud, same basic idea. We're all just impatient and looking for that little bit of control over the waiting game.

inTIL my old wool blanket beats a fancy sleeping bag for car camping
Oh man, I feel this. My own mummy bag is basically a fancy tube I get stuck in and then sweat myself awake. Last time I used it, I woke up with one arm pinned to my side like I was in a straightjacket. The blanket just makes more sense. You can kick a leg out, wrap it over your head, or even use it as a weird cape while you fumble with the camp stove. Simple wins.

inMy rain barrel overflowed and flooded the neighbor's yard during that big storm in Portland
Drill that overflow hole first, then help them fix the garden.
