That $200 espresso machine I thought was a steal

Thought it was a steal" - oh yeah, been there. Got a "refurbished" vacuum once for half price. Worked great for a month then started smoking. Seller was gone too. These "refurbished" deals are usually just someone wiping dust off a broken item and calling it good. No real testing happens. Learned my lesson the hard way. Now I only buy new or from stores with actual return policies.

Thought those $20 Bluetooth earbuds were a steal, but 3 weeks in and the left one stopped charging

Isnt the Tozo T6 like $25-$30 usually? I think the real problem with those cheap buds is the battery dying unevenly, not charging contacts failing. You got a point about the Anker stuff though, @terry_barnes, that line holds up way better for not a lot more cash.

PSA: My budget hostel booking blew up in my face in Barcelona

Yeah my buddy actually booked this "amazing deal" for a hostel in Rome last summer. It was like 30 euros per night which seemed crazy cheap for August. He got to the hotel and it was literally a construction site with mattresses on the floor. The worst part was the booking site was called "EuroStayz" or something like that and the URL looked totally legit until you noticed it had an extra letter in the domain name. He tried to get a refund but the customer service email bounced back. The whole thing was a mess and he ended up sleeping at the train station for two nights before finding a real place.

Honestly, I had to pick between patching a hole with spackle or using joint compound and my drywall looks way better now

Read a blog post from a contractor the other day who said the same thing. He explained how spackle can crack over time if you use it on anything bigger than a nail hole. Compound's way more forgiving and sands down easier for large patches. Plus it dries slower so you got more time to work it smooth. Made me realize I was just being impatient grabbing the spackle off the shelf. Learning that lesson for sure.

Had to choose between a dragon and a sentient tree for my fantasy novel's mentor character

Had a similar moment halfway through my first draft where I wanted to scrap everything. Just forced myself to write one more chapter and suddenly the whole thing clicked together. Sometimes you just gotta push through the rough patch and it sorts itself out lol.
