Swapped a fan on my PS5 last Wednesday and the whole thing went sideways

Do I need a degree in electrical engineering just to swap a plastic fan? Cause I sure don't have one. I tried swapping mine and ended up with three extra screws on the floor and a hum that sounds like a dying fridge. My console runs fine but now I'm paranoid it'll explode during a boss fight. Probably should've just dusted it like a normal person.

Always hated thermal paste reapplication until I tried it on a 12 year old Dell

Oh absolutely, this lines up with something I've noticed for years. It seems like people treat old tech like it's some kind of disposable toy instead of something that can often be fixed with basic maintenance. @aaron708 hit the nail on the head with that comment about tossing perfectly good machines. I've seen it with cars too where people junk a vehicle over a bad sensor or a clogged filter. We've gotten so used to replacing things instead of taking five minutes to figure out what's actually wrong. A little bit of effort and a cheap tube of paste can keep a computer running for years just like changing the oil in your car. It's a shame we don't teach more of this simple problem solving anymore.

PSA: Don't waste $150 on a composite ratcheting screwdriver set

Man, same here... mine started falling apart after a week and a half.

Warning: my bench time on a Dell Optiplex 7090 dropped from 45 minutes to 15 after I started using a magnetic tray for the screws.

Respectfully disagree. A magnetic tray actually slowed me down.

I finally figured out why my bin smelled like a swamp

Right, and the people who swear by browns are the same ones who leave their pile sitting for weeks on end. A consistent turning schedule fixes most of the problems people blame on too many greens. If your pile doesn't smell, it's working, full stop.
