My buddy the IT auditor made me paranoid about public USB ports

I read a piece in Consumer Reports about this maybe 5 years ago and they said the risk was way overblown. For it to work, the hacker would need to physically modify the USB port and your phone would also need to have an outdated operating system. Most modern phones have protections built in that ask you if you trust the device before any data can transfer. Ive used public charging stations maybe 50 times over the years and never had a problem. Not saying its impossible but its like worrying about lightning striking your car in a parking lot. Your wall plug idea is fine but I think your buddy Dave might be selling you a little fear for the sake of his job.

Found an old 1970s bookbinding manual at a thrift store in St. Paul

Oh man, my buddy tried hide glue once and his whole shop smelled like dead horses for a week.

Why does nobody talk about LG washer drum bearing failures?

Man, that sucks! I think the bigger pattern here is that nothing is built to last anymore. I mean, you look at washers from the 90s, they'd run for 20 years with maybe a belt swap. Now they cram all this electronics and fancy stuff in there but the actual mechanical parts are garbage. My buddy's Samsung had the same issue, drum bearing went out at 3 years. Its like they figured out exactly how long stuff needs to last before we get annoyed enough to just buy a new one instead of fixing it. Not just washers either, I see it with fridges and dishwashers too.

Why does nobody talk about the chaos when your oven door latch breaks mid-bake?

That cautious approach makes sense from a safety standpoint, but stopping mid-bake actually caused more problems than it solved. Waiting an hour for the oven to cool meant those cupcakes were sitting in residual heat way too long, which dried them out completely. A quick fix with some heavy-duty tape or wedging a butter knife in the latch would've saved the bake and avoided hours of wasted time and ingredients.

Ever since I fixed my buddy's porch in Akron last spring, I stopped buying new tools for every job.

Did you check Mike's square for squareness before you used it? My old man had a 60s Stanley that was off by a hair, but I only caught it after I built a crooked shed.
