My front driveshaft rebuild in Reno took 4 hours instead of 45 minutes because of one stupid snap ring
So I finally got around to rebuilding the front driveshaft on my '99 Tacoma after it started vibing bad around 55 mph. Thought it would be a quick job, pull the shaft, swap the u joints, back on the road before dinner. Nope. Got the shaft out fine, but the snap ring on the rear u joint was so rusted in there it basically welded itself to the yoke. I spent two hours with picks, PB blaster, a torch, and finally a dremel just trying to dig that thing out. Then the new joint would not seat right because I nicked the inside of the yoke with the dremel, so I had to file it smooth and pray it held. By the time I got it all buttoned up and test drove it, I'd burned my hand twice and my neighbor had come over three times to ask if I needed help. Anyone else had a yoke get ruined by just trying to get a snap ring out? I'm wondering if I should just swap the whole yoke next time instead of fighting it.
