My rear leaf spring setup ate a shackle on the trail and I'm switching to a different plan
Last Saturday on the Kingston Peak run my rear shackle snapped right at the frame mount about 4 miles in. I was running a 4 inch block lift stacked under the factory springs, which I put on two winters back because it was cheap and fast. Limped back down in 2WD with the leaf hanging, and a guy in a green XJ towed me the last stretch. Spent Sunday pulling both rear leaves and found the main leaf cracked too, so the blocks were likely flexing the springs the whole time. I'd been swearing blocks were fine for a light trail rig, but seeing the crack I'm done with that setup. Now I'm looking at a proper 3 inch leaf pack and new shackles, and my budget is about $650. Anyone run a full leaf swap on a mostly daily driven truck and was the ride better or worse on pavement?
