Overheard a guy at the trailhead say my rig was 'overbuilt'. Then he got stuck.
Pulled into the lot at Brown Mountain last Sunday and this dude in a stock Tacoma looks at my front bumper and goes 'man, that thing's way overbuilt for these trails.' I just shrugged, aired down, and headed out. About 3 miles in, I found him winching off a tree after trying to straddle a rut that ate his running boards. I gave him a tug out and he didn't say much after that. Anyone else get that 'you don't need that' talk from people who've never actually run a rock garden?
Ran into the same thing at Uwharrie last fall when a guy in a bone stock Wrangler told me my skids were a waste of money. Two hours later he was asking to borrow my hi-lift after his transfer case kissed a rock he swore was "easy." Funny how the trail always settles that argument for you.
