TIL that AI can now write full research papers that passed peer review at a small conference last month

A buddy of mine told me about a preprint server where an AI-generated paper on materials science got accepted without anyone noticing until the authors came clean.

Wait, peer review actually caught something? That's refreshing to hear for once. Usually when these things come out the reviewers sleepwalked right past it.

Honestly, isn't catching fake papers kind of the whole point of having a peer review system in the first place? Guess that's working out great for everyone.
