Frozen fries beat homemade every time after 20 tries

Everyone raves about making fries from scratch in the air fryer, but after 20 attempts with different cuts and soaking methods, mine always came out limp. Threw in a bag of store-bought frozen crinkle cuts last Tuesday and they came out perfect in 14 minutes, zero prep. Anyone else given up on the homemade route?
