That's rough, mine's held up way better. I mean, I use it almost every day for stuff like reheating pizza or making those little frozen egg rolls. Maybe it's just me but the coating seems pretty tough on my model. Could be a bad batch or something, idk. I've heard some brands use a thinner non-stick layer that chips if you use metal tools by accident.
Ever try scrubbing the flaky spots with a plastic scraper? I had one that started going bad and I just kept using it... carefully avoiding the worst parts. It's not perfect but you can stretch it a few more months if you're broke. The real fix is just getting a new one and hiding it from your roommate.
My old one lasted three years before the coating started flaking into my scrambled eggs. I'm pretty sure my roommate used a fork on it when I wasn't looking.
