My air fryer toast came out perfect on the first try after 3 years of soggy fails
I was over at my sister's place in Portland last weekend and she showed me she preheats her air fryer for 5 minutes before putting bread in, which I never do. She said her husband thought she was crazy until he had a slice with actual crunch instead of that chewy texture I always get. Has anyone else found a specific trick that totally changed how a basic food comes out of the air fryer?

This is one of those things that makes me think about how we all just accept the way we've always done stuff without questioning it. The preheating thing is a perfect example - we get so focused on the cooking part that we forget the equipment itself needs to be ready first. It reminds me of how my dad used to put cold pans on the stove and then turn the heat on, wondering why everything stuck. There's a whole pattern here about people skipping the preparation step because they're in a hurry or just don't realize it matters. Your sister's husband dismissing the preheat then changing his mind is exactly how most of us operate, we resist until we see proof with our own eyes. So what other basic foods have you completely changed how you cook them after learning one tiny adjustment?

Doesn't that kind of thing happen all the time though? Like somebody shows you one small change and suddenly everything clicks. I used to burn my rice every single time until a neighbor told me to let it steam with the lid on after turning the heat off for 10 minutes. Never would've thought of it myself. It's funny how we all develop these little habits and just assume they're the only way to do something. Until someone else comes along and says hey try it this way instead and suddenly you're eating crunchy toast instead of chewy.
