Bought a $180 "aviation grade" borescope off a random site and the tip got stuck in cyl 2
So I'm doing a compression check on a IO 360 last month and figure I'll finally get my own borescope instead of borrowing the shop one. Found this thing online, 5mm tip, says aviation grade right on the listing. $180. The shop one we use is a grand and change so I'm feeling pretty smart.
First three holes look fine, image is grainy as hell but whatever. Go into cyl 2, I see a little carbon, I rotate the tip a bit to get a better angle, and the whole shaft twists but the camera head doesn't move. The little articulation cable inside snapped. Now the head is wedged sideways in the plug hole and won't come back out.
Spent 40 minutes fishing it out with a piece of safety wire. I could feel my heart in my ears the whole time. Got it out thank god, no scratches, but I tossed the thing in the trash that afternoon. A customer walked in while I was doing it and just watched me silently which made it so much worse.
So $180 down the drain and I still borrow the shop scope. What are you guys running that actually holds up? I don't mind paying real money but I want to hear it from someone who's had it more than a year.
