Chose old-school torque wrenches over digital for 6 months, here is what I found

Back in January I had to pick between a digital torque wrench from a Snap-On truck or an old beam style my father passed down. I went with the beam unit because it had the calibration sticker from 1998 and I wanted to trust something simple on a Cessna 182 cylinder base nuts. The first few jobs were fine, but last month during a landing gear swing I noticed my readings were off by about 8 foot-pounds compared to a rental digital unit. Nothing failed, but it got me thinking. I plan to send the beam unit out for calibration this week, cost is around $65. Has anyone else stuck with beam style on critical fasteners and just accepted the older tech? Or do you all run digital only when safety is on the line?
