Digital torque wrenches vs analog, I ate crow after the calibration check

I've been turning wrenches on Cessnas and Pipers for about 6 years now, always swore by my old beam style torque wrench. Last month we got a new Snap-on digital unit in the shop and I laughed at it, figured it was just a fancy toy. Then I sent both out for calibration, the digital came back perfect but my trusty beam wrench was off by 9 foot-pounds at the low end. That's a huge deal on a prop flange bolt, I could have easily under torqued something critical. Switched over to the digital for everything now, it's got an audible click that the analog never had, much easier when your arms are buried in a cowling. Anyone else stubbornly stick with old tools until a calibration report smacks them in the face?

Ha! Yeah, I was the same way with my old clicker type for years. Thought the digital stuff was just for guys who didn't trust their feel. Then I checked mine against a test bar in the shop and it was reading low on the small end too. Scary part is nobody knows how long it was like that. Now I got a habit of checking my digital one on a known bolt every couple months, just a quick sanity check. You can't beat that audible beep either when you're all twisted up under a panel. Good call making the switch, better to find out on the bench than on a flight line.
