Appreciation post: my 8th grade English teacher who made me write a story every week

Wait, did you also write a heartbreaking tale about a depressed toaster that just wanted to be used? I'm pretty sure my 6th grade teacher still has that one framed somewhere.

My sister called her new monstera 'a bit dramatic' and it got me thinking

Gotta disagree on this one. My snake plant’s been wrinkly for months and water doesn’t fix it-turns out it was just rootbound. I’ve killed a few peace lilies by watering every time they drooped, only to find out I was drowning them. The leaves going flat can also mean too much sun or cold drafts, not just thirst. It’s more about checking the soil and knowing your plant’s actual setup than reading the leaves like a mood ring.

Just walked out of a stationery shop in Austin and I'm worried about washi tape

Oh man, my buddy bought some fancy washi tape from a shop in Portland and it fell off her planner in like ten minutes. It's probably just a bad batch or the store trying to save money.

A pitmaster in Kansas City told me my rub was too sweet

Got into a similar situation a few years back. A buddy of ours who competes in Memphis told me my chicken tasted like candy. I was using a rub with turbinado sugar and honey powder, way overdoing it. Cut the sugar way back and bumped up the smoked paprika plus some cayenne for heat. Now I let the apple juice spritz do the sweet work instead of packing it into the rub. Made a huge difference in how people actually finish the meat.

Chat with a Leica guy in Seattle changed how I see sensor cleaning

Shot a look at my own sensor cleaning kit after reading that and felt kinda dumb. Ngl, I've been using those wet swabs for years and definitely scratched a sensor once on an old Sony. CO2 only? That sounds risky to me, but the guy's got 30 years of proof.
