Lead at my hangar keeps saying 'close enough for government work' on torque values
I was doing a 100 hour on a 172 last Tuesday out at our hangar in Reno and the lead comes by while I'm torquing the oil filter and says "just snug it, close enough for government work." I've got the AMM open right there showing 17 to 19 foot pounds on the filter housing. He's been doing this 22 years so part of me wants to trust him, but I'm the one signing the logbook. Ended up redoing three of his torque jobs after he walked off and all three were under spec. Has anyone else worked with a lead who treats torque specs like suggestions or is this just my place?
