I wired every zone with 22/4 for 11 years, now I won't touch anything but 22/2
For over a decade I ran 22/4 to every single zone out of habit, even when the panel only needed two wires and a resistor at the device. Last spring I did a 40 zone job in Naperville and burned through 3 spools of 22/4 plus a solid day just stripping and trimming the extra pairs I never used. My supply house guy finally asked why I was paying for two extra conductors on every run, and I didn't have a good answer. Switched to 22/2 with end of line resistors at the contact and my pull time on that same size job dropped by almost 6 hours. Curious what you all run now, because I keep hearing some guys swear by 4 conductor for future upgrades and I'm not sure it's worth it.
