Wire colors on a 30 year old panel finally made sense

Pulled a panel in an old house last Tuesday and the zones were all over the place. Red was on zone 2, green was on zone 1, and some blue wire was just floating. I spent 20 minutes tracing everything before I noticed the original installer left a hand written note taped inside the lid. Turns out he used a color blind friendly pattern on purpose. That little detail kept me from rewiring the whole thing for no reason. Has anyone else run into a honest to god helpful note left by the previous guy?

I used to roll my eyes at notes in panels, figured if you can't read a meter you shouldn't be in there. But a few years back some old timer left a diagram showing which wire went to the smoke detectors and which was the shared neutral, and it saved me a whole afternoon of guessing. Now I actually look for them first, definitely changed my tune on that.
