Fresh Hatch chiles beat the frozen bag, no contest
I used to grab those frozen diced green chiles from the store because they were cheap and easy, but last week I drove out to the Santa Fe farmers market and bought a bag of fresh Hatch ones for about $18. Roasting them on my grill for 20 minutes until the skin blistered made the whole patio smell incredible, then I peeled and froze half of what I had. Taco night on Tuesday with the fresh ones versus the old frozen stuff was night and day, the heat was brighter and the flavor actually tasted like the pepper instead of just salt water. Has anyone else tried switching to fresh Hatch and noticed a big difference, or is it just me being extra about it?
