Just wasted $80 on that 'authentic' New Mexican food tour downtown

Signed up for the three hour walking tour near Old Town thinking I'd get the real deal. Ended up at a chain restaurant that served frozen chile rellenos. Has anyone else fallen for one of these tourist traps?

Just learned the original Route 66 alignment went right through Central Ave in Albuquerque

I was reading a history blog from the city library archives and found out that before the interstate system, the old Route 66 ran straight down Central Avenue from downtown all the way to the west mesa. They even have a specific marker near the KiMo Theatre showing the exact spot where travelers used to stop. I had no idea our stretch of Central was once the main drag for cross country road trips. Has anyone here ever followed the old Route 66 path through town?

Am I the only one who got ripped off by that broken fountain on Central?

I dropped $40 on that Rio Grande fountain repair fundraiser downtown last month. Watched the guy hook up a pump that lasted maybe 3 days before it started spitting muddy water everywhere. He told me "it'll flow for years" but I saw him packing up his van by the end of the week. Now the thing is just sitting there all sad and dry. Anyone else lose cash on that deal?

Heads up: Stop calling Old Town parking enforcement during Balloon Fiesta week

I work at one of the shops on San Felipe Street, and every year around Balloon Fiesta I see tourists get tickets because someone tells them to "just park in the Old Town lots" without reading the signs. Those lots have 2 hour limits from 8 to 6, and enforcement doubles during Fiesta week. Last Tuesday I watched three families get $45 tickets in about 30 minutes because they thought the lots were free all day. The city actually sends extra officers down there specifically to catch people who don't check the posted hours. If you're heading to Old Town during Fiesta, park at the Indian Pueblo parking garage instead, it's $5 all day and they don't tow. Has anyone else seen the same thing happen year after year?
