Pro tip: watch your card at the Smith's on Carlisle, guy behind me pulled a fast one
Standing in line at the Smith's on Carlisle and Constitution around 5pm on a Friday, some guy in a gray hoodie was standing way too close behind me at the self checkout. When I turned to grab my bags, he said "oh sorry man, just in a hurry" and stepped back, but I noticed he had his phone angled down toward my card slot the whole time. I checked my banking app in the parking lot and saw a $1.47 charge from a gas station in Rio Rancho that I never made, thankfully my bank flagged it. Now I hold my hand over the card reader every single time, and I yelled at the manager to have someone watch that lane. Has anyone else run into this at the Carlisle location or was it just a one-off?
Man, that $1.47 charge is the sneaky part. Thieves test a small amount first to see if the card works before they go big, so good thing your bank caught it. Might be worth telling your bank to lock that card number down and get a new one, since the test charge means they probably have the full number.
