My CRT started buzzing during the big game and a $3 part from the hardware store saved it
I was watching the Sunday game on my 1998 Trinitron when a loud buzzing kicked in from the back of the set. I panicked because these things are getting hard to find, so I unplugged it and pulled the back cover off. The flyback transformer had a tiny crack in the rubber cup, and a guy at the local electronics shop in Bellingham told me to try dielectric grease on it. I put a little dab on the crack, let it sit, and screwed everything back together. That was 3 weeks ago and the buzz is completely gone, picture is still sharp as ever. Has anyone else dealt with flyback arcing on these old Sonys, or did I just get lucky?
