My old Marantz tuner hums louder after I cleaned the dial contacts
Took apart my 1978 Marantz 2230 last weekend to fix scratchy knobs and suddenly the transformer hum got way more noticeable. Turns out I had the ground strap on the wrong post the whole time, reattached it and the hum dropped to almost nothing. Has anyone else had a ground strap flip on them after a simple cleanup?
That ground strap thing bit me too on a 2245 I picked up at a flea market. I had it on the wrong post for like two weeks and could not figure out why the hum was so bad, drove me nuts. Put it back where it belonged and the thing went dead quiet, I actually thought I broke it at first. Good catch on yours, those old Marantz units are picky about that stuff.
