Thursday was the worst day for my Thorens TD-160, then Sunday fixed it

My platter just stopped spinning mid-record on Thursday, belt snapped after maybe 20 years on the motor pulley. Took me 3 hours to find a reasonable replacement at a shop in Portland, paid $18 for a new belt. Sunday I cleaned the old bearing with rubbing alcohol and re-oiled it, now it runs steadier than before. Anyone else had a belt fail with zero warning, or was mine just overdue for the scrap pile?

Honestly, that's a brutal way to find out a belt is done. Twenty years is a solid run though, so I'd say it earned its retirement. The bearing clean and re-oil is key, those old Thorens tables really wake up after that. Glad you got it sorted out, must feel good to hear it spin steady again.
