Tried to fix the wobble in my garage sale turntable with a stack of nickels, now it plays like a wind chime
Found a belt drive deck at a church sale in Toledo for 12 bucks, and the platter had a wobble you could see from across the room. So I did the dumb thing and taped 3 nickels to the outer edge as a counterweight, thinking I was some kind of engineer. First spin of a scratchy copy of Rumours and the whole thing started thumping like a washing machine with a brick in it, and one nickel flew off and hit my cat. Took the nickels off, cleaned and re-oiled the spindle, and the wobble was really just a dried out belt the whole time. I paid 9 dollars for a new belt online and it runs dead quiet now. So what is the weirdest thing you have taped, glued, or bolted onto a machine to fix something, and did it blow up in your face like mine did?
