Just counted my finished journals and hit a number I never expected

Do you find that the things you stick with are rarely the ones you meant to? I started keeping a simple daily log for work, but now it's the only record I have of my kids' little sayings. It's funny how the small habit ends up holding the big stuff.

TIL a library in my town is tossing all their old cloth bindings for rebinding in plastic

Oh man, my buddy's library did this exact thing. His favorite old book cracked right along the plastic spine after a few years.

Had to lift a 15-ton AC unit onto a roof last month, tried a new rigging method versus the old way and the difference was night and day.

My sense of drama is a solid 11 out of 10.

My brother said the moon landing stuff is just a way to distract from real problems

The Apollo program gave us satellite TV and cordless tools, stuff we use now. It's not a distraction, it's proof we can solve huge problems when we focus. If we used that same drive on climate or energy, we'd see real progress. Dismissing that kind of effort just makes our current problems feel impossible.

Watching a customer try to 'fix' his own slide with a Dremel three years ago in my old shop made me swear off walk-in work for good.

Absolutely, that's the only way to go. I saw a guy try to polish a feed ramp with a bench grinder once, completely ruined the barrel. Some people just have no idea what they're doing. It's not worth the headache dealing with the damage afterward. Now I only work with people who have at least done their homework. Letting amateurs with power tools near a gun is a recipe for disaster.
